Chad A. Jacobs Foundation

Chad Jacobs (Sept. 24, 1964 – June 11, 2010)

Chad was a founder of ICR, but more importantly, he was the loving husband of Karen and devoted father to Taylor and Mac. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and moved to Fairfield, CT at a young age. He attended Fairfield College Preparatory School in Fairfield, CT where he was a member of the ’80-’81 Connecticut State Division I championship team and co-captain of the ’81-’82 season hockey team. Chad attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts where he was captain of the men’s hockey team and received a B.A. in Economics in 1986. After Holy Cross, Chad attended The Schiller Institute in Heidelburg, Germany, The University of Munich and ultimately earned an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

In 1998, after several years as a Wall Street equity research analyst, Chad co-founded ICR with his lifelong friends and fellow Fairfield Prep classmates, Tom Ryan and the late John Flanagan. Until his death he served as Co-CEO and a member of the Board of Directors, and along the way helped build the highly successful retail and consumer practice at the firm, while more broadly managing ICR’s growth. Chad was an executive board member of the John Patrick Flanagan Foundation and was a long-time coach of youth hockey teams at Wonderland of Ice. He was an avid fisherman, a fiercely competitive tennis player, and as many friends fondly remember, Chad was always the life of the party.

It is in this context ICR became a founding sponsor of the Chad A. Jacobs Memorial Foundation. Now in its fifth year the foundation has raised over $500,000 to benefit children in the surrounding community. True to Chad’s fun-loving character, the centerpiece of the Chad A. Jacobs Memorial Foundation’s fund raising efforts is a massive scavenger hunt and celebration party each Fall where teams compete for points and only one group is crowned champion.

The Foundation’s mission is to fund academic and athletic scholarships to children with financial need who live in the surrounding community. It annually funds the Chad A. Jacobs Memorial Scholarship at Fairfield Prep, the Chad A. Jacobs Memorial Foundation at Wonderland of Ice for youth hockey players, and the United in Hope Scholarship (jointly funded by the John Patrick Flanagan Foundation) for students who will be attending college or institutions of higher learning, lost a parent to cancer, and are seniors attending high school in Westport or Fairfield, CT. It also funds An Act of Kindness Scholarship which is a discretionary academic or athletic scholarship based on special circumstances. Since the foundation’s inception, over $85,000 has been awarded to children with financial need as of the spring of 2015. Chad had a profound impact on the lives of children during his lifetime and through his foundation his legacy lives on. One scholarship recipient said, “Receiving this scholarship means so much to me. Not only does the money help my family financially, but the example the foundation and your family has made of taking a loss and turning it into something so positive makes me want to strive to be all that I can be.”
